Mohsin Dawar, a member of the National Assembly, was stopped by the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) on Sunday at the Islamabad airport as he was boarding a plane to Tajikistan.

Dawar, who serves as the National Democratic Movement’s head, was scheduled to attend the Herat Security Dialogue. At the airport, he was, however, stopped by the federal agency.

According to the MNA, the federal cabinet approved the removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) for two months.

He claimed that the FIA had been informed in advance of his departure.

The MNA provided more information, revealing that when he reached the counter, he was informed that his name was still on the no-fly list. Although he claimed to have informed the officials that his name had been taken off the ECL, they claimed that they had been ordered not to allow him to leave the country.

In four similar cases filed at Karachi’s Sohrab Goth, Shah Latif Town, and Boat Basin police stations, Dawar is accused of rioting, making provocative statements, and other charges with MNA Ali Wazir and other party leaders.

The aforementioned cases have been filed under Provisions 147 (rioting), 149 (every member of an unauthorised assembly guilty of an offence committed in furtherance of a common object), 500 (the penalty for defamation), 505 (statement conducing to public mischief), and other sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) read with Section 7 (Punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
