On Monday, senior leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will meet to decide when the assemblies in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) would be dissolved.
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry made the statement on his official Twitter account and said that the party will also choose the time to quit the provincial assembly of Sindh and Balochistan.
The former minister emphasised that with these judgments, 64% of Pakistan’s seats will be empty, clearing the path for general elections.
The deposed premier made his first public statement after becoming the target of an attempted murder at a massive gathering in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. “My party has chosen not to stay part of the existing political system and would instead resign from all the assemblies,” he declared.
Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, announced recently that he had decided to leave a “corrupt system and exit all assemblies” before the meeting.
Imran stated that he would soon meet with his chief ministers and the parliamentary party to discuss the issue and that he would soon make the announcement on when the party will leave the assembly without going into further detail about his decision.
Imran, whose party now holds the reins in Punjab, K-P, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, pulled a “burn the boats” move on the government by staking his province governments on a move to call early elections “as the nation stands at a crossroads.”
