According to a local official, a small plane that crashed into powerlines on Sunday in the US state of Maryland left Montgomery County without power for a considerable part of the day.
Pete Piringer, the head of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service’s Twitter account, said that the plane was left dangling 100 feet in the air after colliding with one of the region’s major transmission towers in the Gaithersburg area.
He stated that they are confident the three persons on board are safe since they have been in contact with them.
According to reports, some 88,000 customers are without electricity, and several elevators and traffic lights are also malfunctioning.
Piringer stated that a few nearby highways were also blocked.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration sent investigators to the area, according to state police, to look into how and why the accident happened.
The aircraft, according to FAA and fire authorities, took off from and was travelling toward Montgomery County Airpark from Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York.
While rescue attempts are ongoing, according to state police, the FAA has placed an aviation restriction in place.
