According to a report on Monday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bokhari supported the choice made about the extension of former army head General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa during the previous administration.
Bokhari said that the decision to extend Gen. (retd) Bajwa’s term for an additional three years after it ended in 2019 was not made inadvertently and that it was made in light of the country’s circumstances at the time.
The secretary-general made his remarks in a statement released on Sunday. Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is charged directly with wrongdoing by Bokhari.
He asserted that Imran Khan “should have had the fortitude to fire General (retd) Bajwa” if the general had rendered him an ineffective prime minister.
According to Bokhari, legislation was not necessary for the extension of an army chief’s tenure because the country’s chief executive was authorised to do so.
Imran Khan, the PTI chairman, and former prime minister granted Gen. Qamar a three-year extension in November 2019 and cited problems with the regional security climate as justification.
When the extension in service was contested before the Supreme Court, it got contentious.
Parliament was given six months by the supreme court to change the Army Act to make way for an extension with the backing of the current ruling parties, the parliament unanimously approved the amending measure. In contrast to the decision it made in 2019, the PTI has recently regretted extending the former army chief’s contract.
Khan, who is dependent on crutches, is still awaiting some assurances over the dismissal of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies, according to Bokhari.
He added that Khan, the “head of falsehoods brigade,” accuses Gen. (ret.) Bajwa of being a conspirator, while Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the chief minister of Punjab, claims the former COAS dispatched the general to the PTI leader. He said that now everyone may decide for themselves who is speaking correctly.
