For the first time since taking over as head of the Pakistani armed forces, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Asim Munir has arrived in Saudi Arabia.
During the trip, the head of the Pakistani Army met with Saudi Arabia’s defence minister, Khalid bin Salman, to discuss issues of mutual interest.
The kingdom’s minister tweeted, “We emphasized the strategic partnership between our brotherly countries, reviewed the bilateral military and defense relations, and discussed ways of strengthening our cooperation”.
Along with major regional and global topics of shared concern, they discussed military and defence cooperation as well as strategies for fostering and enhancing it.
The COAS would leave Saudi Arabia after his visit and travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to talk about bilateral security cooperation.
The army commander is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on official business from January 4 to January 10, according to Inter-Services Public Relations. The COAS will meet with the senior leaders of the two friendly nations to address issues of shared concern, including military-to-military cooperation and bilateral relations with an emphasis on security-related issues.

Gen Munir succeeded Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as commander of the Pakistan Army in November of last year during a special ceremony at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
Gen. Munir assumed charge as the 17th army commander.
In 1986, Gen. Munir received a commission in the 23rd Frontier Force Regiment. He completed the prestigious Mangla 17th Officers Training Course and received the coveted sword of honor.
