PML-Q As a result of Parvez Elahi’s remarks about a potential merger between the party and the PTI, President Chaudhry Shujaat suspended him from the party on Monday and gave him a show-cause notice.
According to the show-cause notice, Shujaat called an emergency meeting after taking note of Elahi’s comments on Sunday night.
A day ago, Elahi discussed a potential merger between the PML-Q and the PTI and stated that his party’s decision would be revealed following the consultative meeting that was slated to take place on Monday (today) to discuss the idea.
“We are taking the PTI chairman’s offer into consideration, and we have already scheduled a meeting of our leadership for Monday (today),” he declared.
He revealed that PML-Q leader Chaudhry Moonis Elahi has already approved of the planned merger because it will benefit both parties.
Shujaat and Elahi had disagreements about whether to support the PTI or the PDM government last year.
In contrast to PTI, which backed Pervez Elahi for chief minister, PML-Q president Shujaat Hussain supported PDM candidate Hamza Shehbaz for the position.
Elahi asserts that she is in charge and has the backing of the PML-Q parliamentary party.
The PML-Q, it was claimed, has its own identity, voting base, party discipline, and manifesto, all of which were broken by Elahi’s remarks.
The notice stated that Elahi had seven days to submit an explanation for his remarks or else legal action would be taken against him by Articles 16 and 50 of the party constitution. It further stated that Elahi’s basic party membership would be revoked until the explanation was delivered.
As a result of it being discovered that Moonis, Hussain Elahi, and Senator Kamil Ali Agha were joining another party alongside Parvez, a show-cause letter was also delivered to them.
The letter stated that their senatorial and National Assembly seats were held in trust for them by the PML-Q and that any attempt on their part to join another party would be against the law.
It further stated that if any of them wished to switch parties, they should resign from their posts immediately; else, the PML-Q would be forced to seek their removal from office through the Pakistan Election Commission.
