The information minister tweeted that the premier had phone conversations with Chaudhry Shujaat, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and PPP co-chair Asif Ali Zardari.

The candidates were previously discussed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with his coalition allies Asif Ali Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
Prime Minister Shehbaz and Special Assistant to the PM Malik Ahmad Khan discussed the situation in their meeting.
Following the meeting, he said that the premier forwarded names to former president Asif Ali Zardari that had been shortlisted.
Malik Ahmad Khan stated in a tweet that “the PML-N after deliberation also agreed on the name of former president Supreme Court Bar Ahsan Bhoon for the nomination of interim chief minister of Punjab. However, he apologised and praised the PML-N leadership for making him the caretaker CM due to the obligations and expectations of the lawyer politics.”
The change occurred hours after PM Shehbaz Sharif met with the coalition partners of the government to discuss the PMLN’s candidates for the caretaker chief minister of Punjab.

Fawad Chaudhry, the leader of the PTI, claimed that the names suggested by the PML-N were “non-serious” while speaking to the media in Lahore.
He added that the names given by the PTI and the PML-Q were “serious,” calling it “a joke” if they had not informed us of their suggestions.
“We believe that their names should be the subject of consensus.”
Fawad referred to Malik Ahmed’s earlier comment that the names put forth by the PTI may show flexibility.
