During the hearing of an “assets beyond means case” Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was accused on Friday, an accountability court in Islamabad revoked the arrest warrants that had been issued against him.
Under heavy guard, the minister came before the court and asked that his arrest warrants be permanently revoked. When Judge Mohammad Bashir questioned if the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had issued arrest warrants for Dar, the IO for the NAB, Nadir Abbas, said that the anti-graft organization had first issued the warrants but that they had since been suspended.
According to Misbah, Ishaq Dar’s participation was the only reason the warrants were issued. The court asked him about his current position and said should the orders be suspended or not.?
The NAB prosecutor concurred with Misbah’s assertion that the warrants were issued to secure Dar’s appearance in court and backed the revocation of the warrants at the time.
Misbah further disclosed to the court that Dar had to leave the country to attend a conference while arguing for the warrant’s annulment.
Judge Muhammad Bashir of the accountability court noted during the proceedings that an immediate reference was also filed, requiring a new indictment to be issued.
The respondent made a comment that we will provide details for it and this immediate reference issued without merit.
Dar’s warrant was subsequently revoked, and the court asked the NAB to respond to his two motions, which were submitted today, by the next hearing date of October 12.
After then, the court granted Dar’s request and nullified the arrest warrants while requiring him to post an Rs. 1 million bonds.
