On Wednesday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) cleared six MQM-P leaders in three cases where they were accused of participating in the broadcasting of allegedly seditious speech by MQM leader Altaf Hussain in 2016.
These MPs were accused of violating the law by listening to and assisting the protracted rabble-rousing speeches of their London-based party founder at the police stations in Sachchal, Malir, and Brigade.
Wasim Akhtar, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, Javed Rahim, Mehmood Abdul Razzaq, and Amir Khan are among the acquitted leaders, along with Farooq Sattar, the former MQM convener and head of the MQP-P organisational restoration committee.
The MQM leaders were declared proclaimed offenders by the court when the cases were filed. They were charged with conspiring against the state, inciting the people against governmental institutions, and provoking an uprising in the nation.
Salman Mujahid Baloch was exonerated in two cases, while Abdur Rauf Siddiqui and Qamar Mansoor were both acquitted in one case each.
