According to a directive from the FIA directorate in Peshawar, the defendant, Kamran Nawaz, was subjected to punishment after the assistant director of FIA immigration in Torkham reported an incident of mistreatment of an Afghan woman during the immigration procedure.
When an Afghan woman reported to an FIA official via a smartphone video, the matter of the immoral deed came to light. In the video, the unnamed Afghan woman claims that the accused grabbed her repeatedly while she was going through immigration. The woman was seen sobbing as she described the treatment she received from the accused FIA investigator.
Just several days ago, local human rights advocates and labour union officials also accused the FIA employees stationed at Torkham of inappropriate behaviour with Afghan women as well as their participation in the trafficking of human beings.
They claimed that officials’ undesirable and illegal actions were damaging the country’s reputation and could have a negative impact on relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan on a bilateral basis.
They said that after collecting large sums of money from them, FIA employees gave bogus visas to Afghans and that these same individuals thereafter used Pakistan as a “jumping off” point to travel to Europe and the United States.
An FIA representative in Torkham, Shafqat Jamal, refuted the accusations and stated that several of the people who had made the accusations against the organisation were also engaged in human trafficking and had frequently recently requested illicit favours.
