On Thursday, the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Fired Workers deemed the agency reports unacceptable and ordered that all employees reinstated pursuant to the Supreme Court’s orders be granted seniority status as well as benefits and privileges.
Qadir Mandokhel served as the lower house panel’s chairman throughout its meeting.
All the relevant agencies, including the IB, were asked to submit a compliance report within three days, according to the authority.
The IB officials informed the attendees of the meeting that 892 personnel in all had been fired between 1992 and 1996, while 870 had been reinstated per the apex court’s judgment.
The committee was asked for guidance and promised to see that it was carried out.
According to the committee chairman, the impacted employees will be granted their legal entitlement.
An IB employee who was affected by the situation said to the meeting that he had been fired despite having received the Tamgha-e-Shujaat (Medal of Bravery) for his assistance on a covert mission.

Since the 1990s, when the then-PPP administration employed thousands of individuals in numerous government agencies and organisations, affected workers have been a problem. However, after the party left office, they were fired.
The case was filed in court and stayed there until the PPP regained control in 2010 and passed the Sacked Employees (Reinstatement) Act, which allowed all of these individuals to regain their employment.
However, several petitioners re-filed their case, and on August 17, 2021, the Supreme Court ruled that the SERA was unlawful. As a result, all of the workers who had been rehabilitated as a result of that legislation were once more out of a job.
Following its earlier decision that invalidated the Sacked Employees (Reinstatement) Ordinance Act 2010, the top court, acting suo motu, reinstated hundreds of government employees in December 2021.
