The video-sharing app claims that “TikTok’s basic principles are safety and community trust. We are always looking for ways to improve the measures we have in place to secure our users and creators and promote their wellbeing.”
Currently, users 16 and older who have 1,000 or more followers can host a TikTok Livestream or use its LIVE feature. Users who are older than 18 are allowed to send and receive tips as a method to get paid for their posted content.
The goal of TikTok’s new adult feature is to make sure that live-streaming is meant to “protect the younger members of our community as they start and build their online presence.”
To increase the safety of live streams, the company intends to include updated keyword features.
According to Tiktok, “Using our keyword filtering feature, LIVE creators may already filter out comments they consider inappropriate. We’re releasing an updated version of this feature in the upcoming weeks that will remind users and provide them new keywords to add to their filter list.”
The online community will be kept “safe, supportive, and joyful,” the platform has assured.
