Due to Parvez Elahi’s refusal to participate in the vote of confidence, it appears that tensions have developed between Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and the Punjab Chief Minister.
The Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-directive Rehman’s for the trust vote is “illegal,” according to CM Elahi. The PTI chairman has instructed the party’s senior officials to see that the provincial chief executive takes a vote of confidence before January 11, but they have decided against it.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) will resume hearing Elahi’s petition against his removal as chief minister on that day, and the coalition intends to demonstrate to the court that their CM has the support of the house by having the trust vote taken before then, according to PTI Senior Vice-President Fawad Chaudhry.
However, following Elahi’s hesitation to cast the ballot, sources informed on Friday that the PTI president had instructed party leaders to guarantee the voting took place and that PTI legislators would resign from the assembly if anyone tried to block the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.
Imran issued the warning at a time when CM Elahi, who had previously pledged his support for the PTI leader’s initiatives, is now attempting to hold onto power longer than the former prime minister had intended.
Imran’s reservations over “neutrals”
Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, pointed the finger at the establishment on Friday, saying that the “neutrals” on the confidence vote for Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi did not appear to be impartial in his eyes.
Imran claimed that plans were afoot to instal the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in power in Punjab while speaking with senior court reporters at his Zaman Park mansion. But he emphasised that the PTI was readying itself for the Punjab Assembly vote of confidence “if the court orders us” to do so.
Imran stated, “Our members are being approached,” and he added that three of them had informed him of this. The impartiality of the neutrals was subsequently called into doubt by him. The establishment is engaging in political engineering, he continued, and attempts are being made to instal the PML-N as the government in Punjab.
The PTI chairman dodged a direct inquiry on whether he had complete faith in Chief Minister Elahi and said he didn’t think Elahi was engaging in double-dealing. “The PML-Quaid is undoubtedly a supporter of the PTI, but Elahi has his viewpoint on the ruling class. Elahi cannot demand that PTI change its position.”
