Amid uproar surrounding his detention, Imran Khan attacks “institutions” harshly

Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, escaped arrest on Sunday when Islamabad Police arrived at his Zaman Park mansion in Lahore with a court summons to arrest him for his frequent absences from Toshakhana court sessions.

The former prime minister has missed three indictment hearings in an Islamabad sessions court in the case while he recovers from a gunshot wound sustained in a failed assassination attempt in Wazirabad last year.

Just after midday today, Imran’s home was visited by the Islamabad and Punjab Police, who were informed that the PTI leader was “unavailable” even though there was a swarm of PTI supporters and party leaders there.

Despite earlier assurances from Islamabad’s police commander that they wouldn’t return empty-handed, the PTI workers outnumbered the police group, making it impossible to make the arrest. At roughly 1:30 pm, the Islamabad police left Imran’s home.

Imran finally put an end to the hours-long mystery surrounding his location by speaking to a party event on television from his home in Zaman Park just before 5 o’clock.

The PTI chairman added in his vehement statement that he had never kneeled before a group or individual and would never permit the country to do so.

In response to the Islamabad police’s arrival at Imran Khan’s Lahore residence to make his arrest in the Toshakhana case, a crowd of PTI workers had assembled at Zaman Park. Here is where Khan made his appearance.

Due to the former prime minister’s persistent failure to show up in court for the Toshakhana case, additional sessions judge Zafar Iqbal of an Islamabad court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for him on February 28.

Imran Khan added in the forceful address that it doesn’t matter if the government adds his name to the exit control list (ECL) because he has no plans to leave the country.

The PTI chairman made fun of the leadership of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance by claiming that if their “names are put on the no-fly list,” their knees begin to shake.

Khan criticised the former army chief, asserting that through a plot, Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa installed a gang of criminals in the nation.
