According to police officials, a suicide car bomber in Sector I-10 of the federal capital killed one police officer and injured at least six others on Friday, including two civilians and four other police officers.
Law police personnel encircled and sealed off the area right away following the explosion. The wounded were sent to the hospital of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad.
Sohail Zafar Chattha, the deputy inspector general of police, said that about 10:15 a.m., officers in the area observed a “suspect vehicle” with a man and a woman inside.
“The pair got out of the automobile as the cops pulled over the car. Alongside Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, he gave a press conference at the scene of the crime. “The long-haired man, while being searched by the cops, went into the vehicle on some pretense and then detonated himself,” he said.
The Islamabad police identified the martyred officer as head constable Adeel Hussain in a tweet.
According to the tweet, the city was spared from a significant terrorist attack thanks to the Islamabad Capital Police’s prompt action.
The Islamabad police stated in its statement that terrorists have been aiming their attacks at law enforcement for some time in an effort to demoralise them.
It was further said that the terrorists intended to explode in a heavily populated place to attack the population and police.
The Islamabad police spokesperson earlier said that a loud explosion occurred after officers halted a suspicious-looking taxi to conduct a search. According to the authorities, the accused vehicle’s driver died in the suicide attack.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sought a report of the suicide bombing shortly after the explosion and denounced the terrorist incident.
The PM also paid respect to the murdered police officers, stating that the country honours its martyrs. He continued by saying that the entire country would fight terrorism.
The PM declared, “The plan to kill innocent people has failed because of the intervention of the law enforcement services.” A martyr package for the family of Head Constable Adeel Hussain was also announced by him.
