A news release from the President’s Secretariat stated that he made the comments while addressing journalists from Lahore at the Governor’s House.
The president didn’t specifically mention any politicians, but the remarks come in the wake of PTI Fawad Chaudhry’s incarceration.
Additionally, rumours about the potential arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan have been circulating. Imran’s Zaman Park home was surrounded by PTI leaders and fans on Wednesday as they gathered to support their leader.
There is no justification, according to Dr Arif Alvi, for delaying elections, which the Constitution mandates.
He continued by expressing his complete faith in Pakistan’s citizens, relevant organisations, and organised political parties to ensure that elections would be held within the Constitution’s specified window of time.
He emphasised that choosing an interim government should represent this attitude. He stated that the goal of a caretaker government was to “guarantee impartiality” to “ensure that elections were held in a clean, fair and reasonable way by offering all parties a level playing field.”
The president referred to the delayed announcement of several local government election results in Sindh as “unfortunate.” He emphasised the importance of adopting technology, particularly electronic voting machines, to provide transparent results compilation and speed.
The desire of the military establishment to distance itself from politics was also declared by President Alvi as something he “believed.”
Politicians were asked to “grasp this moment, take leadership, and resort to democratic means of resolving the difficulties facing the nation,” he said.
The “minus-one” formula, he claimed, had never been successful in the past, and anyone pursuing it or talking about it was not serving the national interest.
Alvi claimed that a severe economic scenario and increased inflation were the results of the global economic outlook and “our own deficiencies,” and that further burdensome requirements that would probably be imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would be placed on the general populace.
