A woman and two young men were brutally murdered, and their bodies were later found in a well in a remote Balochistan province. This incident sparked demonstrations and brought attention to the inhumanity of illegal prisons. The victims were being held captive in an unlawful prison since 2019 that was purportedly operated by Khetran, a well-known figure in the government-aligned Baluchistan Awami Party.
Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, the minister of Balochistan Communications and Works, was granted bail on Friday, marking the most recent development in the Barkhan killings investigation.
Attorney Manzoor Rehmani, who represents Khetran, asserted that no allegations had been proven against his client and that Khetran was an innocent guy. Due to a “lack of evidence,” Session Judge Malik Sujhao Din granted the bail on an Rs. 500,000 surety bond.
The bodies of a woman and two men were discovered last month in Khetran’s unlawful private jail. She was recognised as Granaz, Khan Muhammad Marri’s wife and mother of her two boys.
Eventually, the police found Granaz with her children, a daughter and a boy. Two other sons were later found in Kohlu.
Khetran, who had been detained by Quetta Police a day earlier on suspicion of being involved in the triple homicide, was given a 10-day physical remand last month by a judicial magistrate.
The authorities first recognised the bodies as those of Granaz, the wife of Khan Muhammad Marri, and her two sons after they were discovered in a well next to the minister’s apartment in the Barkhan neighbourhood.
The bodies, according to Marri at the time, were those of his wife and boys, who he said were detained in Khetran’s private jail. Others of his children, including a daughter, were held captive, he continued.
